Colorectal Cancer Screening Age Lowered to 45
The US Preventative Services Task Force lowered the recommended colorectal cancer screening age from 50 to 45 in 2021. According to a research letter published by JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), from 2021 to 2024, researchers analyzed the results of 12,000 colonoscopy screenings at a large hospital system and found that the number of cancers found in screenings of those aged 45-49 years old were similar to those of 50-54 years old. This validated reducing the recommended screening age for colorectal cancer to 45 years old.
