July is Sarcoma & Bone Cancer Awareness Month

According to the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), sarcomas are a rare group of cancers that form in the soft tissues of the body or bones. It is estimated that over 13,500 cases of soft tissue sarcoma and over 3,700 cases of bone and joint cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in 2025. The five year survival rate for soft tissue sarcomas and bone and joint sarcomas is 66% and 68%, respectively. Certain inherited disorders and even past treatment with chemotherapy and radiation can increase the risk of these types of cancer. With this in mind, early detection is crucial. While some cancers are more preventable than others, many cancers can be detected early and treated effectively with proper screening and care.
